How To Dress The Postpartum Body
Dressing the postpartum body is a tough nut to crack. It's when you are no longer pregnant but still have that pregnancy weight. Most new moms are in a hurry and can't wait to get their old bodies back. The only thing I can say is, it will happen when it happens. Till then, you should try to enjoy your miraculous body and the baby it gave birth to.
Today I'm sharing a few top-notch ways of dressing your postpartum body in a way that hides your belly and accentuates your figure in the most flattering manner.
Like all new mothers, I experienced a complete shift in my priorities once my baby was born. I'm sure it will be no different for you. If you thought pregnancy was hard, wait till you have a new one on your lap 24X7. While you were still able to take care of yourself when you were pregnant- doing up your hair, shopping for maternity clothes, or even indulging in occasional skincare. All the things you used to take for granted will become rare golden opportunities that will come few and far between.
Here's a breakdown of the trendiest and most flattering types of clothing for the postpartum body. Read on!
1. Go for darker colors
Darker colors absorb light and make bodies appear slimmer than they actually are. Colors like navy blue, black, deep browns, and charcoal should be your go-to when dressing the postpartum body. Apart from making you look slimmer, they make your silhouette appear more curvy and sensuous. Something that every new mom needs!
2. Prints FTW!
Patterns and prints can also help to hide the tummy by creating camouflage. A wrap-style dress, empire line, statement sleeves, and vertical pleated lines will do the trick. Plus, vibrant prints make everything brighter and happier.
3. Loose-fitting Garments
Easy to accommodate and a good solution to hide the belly. Loose clothes are easy to slip on, and you don't have to worry about the fit. Instead of going for loose-fitted tops and bottoms together, pair an open-top or bottom with a cozy or tighter alternative. It will make you look relaxed and chic. You could do away with coordinated sets and opt for loose dresses that flatter every body type.
4. Tunic Style Tops
Tunic-style, longline tops usually cover the belly, reaching up to the tops of your thighs. This shape elongates the figure making your protruding belly less prominent. Try one in a shirt-style or one that comes with a hidden zipper. They are super comfortable for everyday wear and can be easily opened if you plan to breastfeed.
5. Kaftans
Our love for kaftans is unending. This effortless, breezy style doubles up as a maternity piece as well as a postpartum one. Available in a range of fabrics and beautiful prints.
Postpartum or nursing kaftans have a tie in the front to adjust fit or come in a hidden zipper for easy nursing access. Whether the season, kaftans will be your best friend.
6. Embrace pants
After baby delivery, you may be gaining or losing weight or might be recovering from C-section surgery. Therefore, you can go for high-waisted pants. Just make sure the band sits above your c-section incision and must have an adjuster for fluctuating belly size.
Postpartum fashion is a loosely talked about topic and has most moms confused. We hope these pointers will help you stay on top of the fashion game even as a new mom.
